Ambala, November 4
Dalip Singh, known as ‘Great Khali’, on Sunday sought public support and motivation to promote wrestling in Haryana.
While interacting with mediapersons here, he said, “Wrestling is an Indian sport, but unfortunately it’s the foreign countries that have promoted it worldwide and gained a lot from the game.” “Instead of criticising, we have to promote wrestling. Everyone can’t go to foreign countries to learn and participate there. Hence the CWE is providing a platform to Indian youth to learn the skills and make their name in the business,” he added.
“The first wrestling event will be held at Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Panchkula on November 11, second at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Ambala, on November 13, third at Sector 32 in Karnal on November 16 and the fourth at the cricket ground, Nangal, Punjab, on November 18,” he said.
Well-known wrestlers, including Chris Master, Katie Forbes, Crimson, Brodie Steele, Mike Tarver Rebel, Jayme Jamson and Matt X Statics, along with Indian wrestlers Shanky Singh, Dinesh Kumar, Manish Dubey, Jeetu Chaudhary, Raghudev, Ravi Prajapati and Harman Singh, besides many others would participate in the “Big Fight”, he added.
The main purpose of organising the international events was to make youths aware of the ill-effect of drugs and get them into sports, he said.
MLA (City) Aseem Goel, who was also present on the occasion said, “It is good that Dalip Singh is promoting wrestling in the country. We are fortunate that the event is being organised in Ambala City.”
