Mohali, March 13
A local court today sent Kharar’s former Block Development and Panchayat Officer (BDPO) Jatinder Singh Dhillon to two-day police remand.
Dhillon was arrested by a team of the Punjab Vigilance Bureau yesterday in misappropriation of funds case, pertaining to acquisition of Jheurheri village land for construction of international airport at Mohali.
Earlier, the Vigilance Bureau requested Dhillon’s remand on the plea that they (Vigilance) have to recover the embezzled amount, around Rs 4 crore, which he (Dhillon) had deposited in the account of another accused in the case, Darshan Singh.
Dhillon, with the help of Darshan Singh, had purchased land for Jheurheri gram panchayat at Sanauli village for around Rs 9.5 crore after the acquisition of Jheurheri’s panchayati land.
The Vigilance team told the court that they wanted to recover the amount of Rs 4 crore in question or investigate if they had purchased any properties with the amount.
Meanwhile, Darshan Singh, along with Mohammad Sohail, also another co-accused in the case, had applied for anticipatory bails in the Court of Additional District and Sessions Judge. While the bail application of Mohammad Sohail has been dismissed, the application of Darshan Singh has been kept pending for hearing on March 15 by the court.
Notably, the Vigilance Bureau has already arrested former District Development and Panchayat Officer (DDPO), Mohali, Gurvinder Singh Sarao, who was posted as the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) in Mansa, BDPO Malvinder Singh and panchayat officer Ravinder Singh in the case.
