Kyrgyzstan artistes wow crowds at youth fest

The campus of Chandigarh University was filled with vibrant colours of Indian and international culture as teams from various universities performed tribal and folk dances on the fourth day of the 34th National Youth Festival.

The main attraction of the day was dance performances by artistes from Kyrgyzstan and Sri Lanka. Students from Kyrgyz National University performed their traditional dance ‘Kara Jorga’ which showcases the traditional way to welcome guests.

In addition, students from Sri Lanka performed the “Kuweni Asna” which is ‘Puja Dance’ as mark of devotion to Lord Buddha.

The audience were excited to watch the various traditional folk dances and tribal dances of India. Team from Chandigarh University performed ‘Braj Ki Holi’, while the team from SNDT, Mumbai, performed Divli Malem which is a traditional dance of Goa. Students from BHU, Varanasi, performed the folk dance of UP known as ‘Mumri’.

The day ended with performance by international artist DJ Candice Redding, South Africa, who made the students dance to her tunes, along with performance of rock band Sunburn. Famous Indian singer, song writer and bhangra dancer Pammi Bai graced the occasion with his presence. Renowned artistes judged various events. — OC
