The Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL) has decided to penalise students who were found flouting the university norms. On July 30, a student was found in an inebriated state on the campus. The matter over the alleged harassment of new-comers had also come to the fore through a viral video of the incident, which was also addressed in a board meeting of the university.
Authorities of the RGNUL held a meeting of the anti-ragging-committee to specifically address the issue on Monday apprehending it to be the case of ragging. Registrar Dr Naresh Kumar Vats said the university decided to initiate disciplinary action against two students found defaulters in the matter on the recommendations of the committee. He said the matter was of grave importance as the university was strictly against involvement of students in any such activity.
As per the authorities, two students of 4th year were alleged to be in an inebriated state inside the hostel. They had apparently called the new-comers of 1st year to their room for interaction in the middle of the night.
A senior year student was also found arguing with university security officials in one of the viral videos and pressing upon the new-comers to return to the room later. Officials said they had decided to take definite steps to ensure such incidents do not occur again.
They said the anti-ragging committee decided to punish the students for serious indiscipline and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000. They have also been assigned the task of community service at library, labs or another office in the campus, for 15 days.
