Officials of the Municipal Corporation (MC) today said the napkins were low-cost, environment friendly and reusable for a span of two years and free from allergy. They said the napkins will be provided for free or at meagre payment.

Ruchika Jaggi of the trust said she was inspired to produce the napkins from an American NGO which has been providing similar napkins in African countries. She said the napkins would be sold at Rs 200 and they would be able to provide over 300 to 500 kits for free every month.

Meanwhile, Preneet Kaur said the girls who could not buy sanitary napkins every time will be provided these napkins for free. “Earlier, we had started the Pakizah project. Now with these sanitary napkins, we are moving a step ahead as the reusable napkins made from cloth will also not affect the environment.” She also urged the women councillors of the Municipal Corporation to play an important role in it.

Poonamdeep Kaur, MC Commissioner, said the napkins would be provided under the project according to which the napkins will be provided to 300 girl students in government schools. “Later, we will take feedback from them and will take the project further,” she added.
