NSS Panjab University organised its first athletics meet under the Fit India Movement here today.
The event began with a pledge-taking ceremony in memory of the martyrs of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre.
The athletics meet was inaugurated by the State Liaison Officer, Chandigarh Administration, Bikram Rana. The event was organised by programme officers Purva Mishra and Sucha Singh, under the guidance of Dr Navdeep Sharma, NSS Programme Coordinator.
More than 150 volunteers participated in track events — 100-metre race, 400-metre race, 4x100 relay race and long jump. Mahipal from the Department of Physical Education was declared Best Male Athlete and Harsimran Kaur from the Department of Public Administration was declared the Best Female Athlete.
The 100-metres gold was won by Mahipal of Physical Education, silver by Arik of geology and bronze by Yash of physical education. The 400-metre (men) gold was won by Nikish of geology, silver by Pawan of geology, and bronze by Vidhanshu of physical education. The 100-metre (women) gold was won by Harsimran Kaur of public administration, silver by Harnoor Ghuman of the UIDS, and bronze by Robin of the UIDS. The 400-metre (women) gold was won by Ramanjot Kaur of physical education, silver by Harsimran Kaur of public administration and bronze by Sakshi of the UIDS. Long-jump (men) gold was won by Yash Tiwari of physical education and the long jump (women) was won by Sohenoor of the PU-ISSER.
