In a major relief to residents of the Sector 63 housing scheme, the Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) will reduce the transfer fee of the flats allotted by it up to 50 per cent.

Sources said the agenda in this regard would be placed in the next meeting of the Board of Directors for the approval. The residents of the Sector 63 housing scheme have been demanding since long to reduce the transfer fee that was exorbitantly high in comparison to Mohali and flats of the group housing societies situated in Sectors 48, 49, 50 and 51.

After their representation to the UT Administration, Parimal Rai, Adviser to the UT Administrator, directed the CHB to look into their grievances.

The Chandigarh Housing Board then formed a committee comprising officers and members of the board to examine the demand and make recommendations regarding the reduction of rates for the transfer.

After examining various factors, the committee has now recommended to reduce the fee by 50 per cent.

Sources said the report of the committee would be placed in the next meeting of the Board of Directors for the approval. The transfer fee for different types of the flats was fixed from Rs 4 lakhs to Rs 9.50 lakh.

The residents said while the transfer fee was fixed from Rs 30,000 to Rs 1 lakh in group housing society flats, it had been fixed 9 times more for the Sector 63 flats.

They also said the collector rate or the market price of these flats were also much less than the independent house which was totally injustice. The residents had demanded fixing the transfer fee on the pattern of group housing society flats as category wise.

JD Gupta, a property consultant, said the recommendation was in the right direction as it would give relief to the residents who were forced to pay the amount that was unjustified.

The CHB had constructed 2,108 flats in Sector 63 under the scheme floated in 2008.
