MOHALI: A 39-year-old person was charred to death after his car caught fire due to a short-circuit near Sambhalke village near Sohana in Mohali late last night.

A 39-year-old person was charred to death after his car caught fire due to a short-circuit near Sambhalke village near Sohana in Mohali late last night. The victim has been identified as Madhav Chaturvedi, a resident of Sector 108 in Mohali.

The SHO of the Sohana police station, Tarlochan Singh, said a cab driver passing through the area noticed the car burning around 11.15 pm. He said they reached the site at 11.30 pm and saw the car engulfed in fire and a person burnt inside. He said after the fire was doused, the body of the victim was taken to the Civil Hospital.

He said Madhav was working in a telecom company in Panchkula and it was not clear whether he was returning home or going to his office. According to him, it will become clear only after the family of the victim, which is in Rajasthan, arrives tomorrow morning.

He said the father of the victim had gone to Faridabad and would be returning tonight. He said a case had been registered. The autopsy would be conducted tomorrow. — TNS
