A 35-year-old man was found murdered with a sharp weapon behind Tau Devi Lal Stadium here this morning.
The deceased has been identified as Gagandeep Singh Bedi, a native of Molan village near Garhshankar. At present, he was living in a rented accommodation in Sector 26, Panchkula.
After receiving information, the police and a team of the forensic experts reached the site. The forensic experts collected the fingerprints. The police recovered a sharp chopper from the spot. Gagandeep’s car with Punjab registration number and a bag of the suspect were also recovered from the spot.
Investigation officer Pradeep Kumar said Gagandeep was going to drop his friend Sandeep at a bus stop in Zirakpur. They were trying to contact his friend. However, his phone was switched off.
He said the body had been sent to the Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination. The suspect repeatedly stabbed him with the sharp weapon. He said they were yet to get any clue about the suspect.
Tanu Sharma, wife of the victim, in her statement to the police, stated that her husband was earlier working with Uber. However, he was sitting idle for the past one year.
She said earlier they were staying at Rampura Mandi village in Bathinda district. They came to the city around three years ago and were living in a rented accommodation. She said they were constructing their own house in Sector 26 here.
Tanu said Sandeep, alias Shibu, a resident of Rampura Phul in Bathinda district, who was their neighbour in Bathinda, had come to their house.
Tanu said after having breakfast, her husband left the house in his car around 8.30 am to drop Sandeep in Zirakpur. When she called her husband on his mobile phone around 9 am, his phone was found switched off. She tried Sandeep’s mobile phone, but it was also found switched off. When she again tried to contact Gagandeep, a cop picked up the phone and told her that her husband had been attacked. When she reached the spot, she found him dead.
On the statement of Gagandeep’s wife, the police have registered a case against Sandeep under Section 302 of the IPC at the Sector 5 police station.
