Jaswinder Singh, a resident of Gobindpura village near Bhadson, has been duped by an agent based at Fazilka on the pretext of sending him abroad.
The complainant has said that accused Ashok Kumar, a resident of Fazilka and Pawan Kumar, resident of Bhadson, had promised him to send him abroad.
He said he had paid Rs 2.9 lakh to the accused but as they failed to send him abroad, he demanded his money back. He said the duo refused to return the amount.
However, Pawan Kumar, talking to The Tribune, said he had come to know about the case on Monday. He said he had been falsely implicated in the case as he neither knew Jaswinder Singh nor met him personally.
He added that his name had been implicated in the case due to political vendetta as he was a staunch supporter of the Akali Dal. He did not know even know the other accused Ashok Kumar, Pawan said.
A case under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 3 of the Punjab Prevention of Human Smuggling Act 2014 has been registered. However, no arrest was made till the filing of the report.
