Members of the Chandigarh Punjabi Manch took out a rally from Gurdwara Amb Sahib in Phase 8 to Gurdwara Sacha Dhan in Phase 3 B1 here today. They said Punjabi language should be made compulsory in schools across the state. They also sought adoption of Punjabi as the official language of the Chandigarh administration.

The members said Chandigarh was the only Union Territory in the country where the regional language had not been given the official status. Siriram Arsh, chairperson, Chandigarh Punjabi Manch, appealed to the people to gather at Sector 17, Chandigarh, on November 1 and march towards the Raj Bhawan and gherao the government building until their demands were met.
