Manveer Singh rallied from a set down to overcome Sarbjot Singh in the boys’ U-18 semifinals in the Roots-AITA Champion Series (CS-7) National Ranking Tennis Tournament in Zirakpur on Thursday.

Manveer lost the first set 3-6, but came back strongly to win the next two sets 6-4 7-5 to set up the title clash with Aryan Thakur, who had to dig deep to humble a Rishit Dakhane. 

Dakhane took the lead with a 6-7(4) win a closely contested opening set, but Thakur fought his way back into the match with a 6-3 win in the second set. He then seized the decider 6-4 to move into the final.

Jitin, Sarthak in final 

Thakur, though, lost to top seed Jitin Chetry in the boys’ U-16 semifinals. Chetry after losing the first set 4-6 lifted his game to clinch the next two sets 6-2 6-2 to book a berth in the final where he will meet Sarthak Gandhi.

Gandhi had an easy semifinal outing as he tamed Samarbir Sindhu 6-4 7-5 to march into the final.

Priyal, Aditi advance

Priyal Choudhary, meanwhile, packed off Vrinda 6-4 6-3 in the girls’ U-16 semifinals, while Aditi Singh came from behind to beat Suhani Sabharwal in the girls’ U-18 semifinals.

Aditi after going down 3-6 to Suhani in the first set, bounced back to claim the next two sets 6-4 6-4 to stay in contention for the title.

Sarbjot-Jitin progress 

In the boys’ U-18 doubles semifinals, top seed pair of Sarbjot Singh and Jitin Chetry drubbed Yashasvi Hooda and Divanshu Hooda 4-2 4-2 to seal a spot in the final.

Rishit Dhakane and Nishank Thakur registered a 4-2 5-3 win over Tanish and Samarth Kaushik in the second semifinal.
