Manvjot Singh of Sangrur clocked 1.19:16 to win the 100m freestyle gold on the opening day of the Punjab Raj State Swimming Championship at Panjab University here on Friday. 

Ludhiana swimmers Sukhmanveer (1.10:98) and Ishmit (1.11:65) claimed the silver and the bronze medal, respectively.

In 100m backstroke, Mohali’s Parth dominated the field with a timing of 1.23:92. Pratham (1.25:15) of Ferozepur bagged the second position, while Patiala’s Pratik (1.28:21) followed in third place. 

Pratham claimed the 50m backstroke gold with a timing of 39.10. Sukhmanvir (39.20) of Ludhiana won the silver, while Parth (39.49) returned with the bronze.

The championship was on Thursday shifted from Mohali to Panjab University after the participants objected to competing in the cold water of the the Sector 78 all-weather pool.
