Media plays the role of a medium to generate mass opinion. We all are aware of the importance of mass opinion. The need of the hour is to create a positive mass opinion. Hence, media is called the watchdog of democracy. This was stated by Haryana Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki.
Solanki was addressing a one-day seminar at Government Post Graduate College, Sector 1, Panchkula, on ‘Defence forces and media’.
The seminar was organised by the department of journalism and mass communication of the college. Dr KG Suresh, Director General, Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), presented his views on the issue. He said, “Nowadays, media is influenced by market forces. The media is competing for TRPs and in the process, committing some mistakes. It is interested in gaining more and more revenue.”
“The media is like a bridge between defence forces and society. It’s the age of specialisation and a reporter should also be up to date with technology,” he said and spoke on the importance of defence reporting.
“It should be a sensitive reporting as the nation should come first.”
The participants and support groups of Sainik Samman Yatra were felicitated at the function by the Haryana Governor.
Principal Dr Archana Mishra was also present on the occasion.
