Students of Classes X and XII are working hard to secure good marks in their first term exams, which commenced on September 1. The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has instructed schools to observe Shramdaan Day on September 15, not realising that students are busy with their exams. Some schools have decided to opt for a shortcut. Only students having no exam on that day will take part in the programme. This is a mockery of the programme, which loses its signification this way. There is a need for proper coordination between the MHRD and the Education Department.

City MC must solve fund crunch issue

It is high time that the Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh takes responsibility for the financial mess it has landed itself in. Does the Municipal Corporation owe no answer to city residents? In who’s name all projects are being carried out? Why did the Municipal Corporation go ahead with projects without adequate funds? The MC should come clean on these questions. Freebies  from the Governor and the UT Administration won’t last long. The MC should bring a white paper on it.

Pay salary to Pbi varsity staff

It was intriguing to learn that one day’s basic salary of the teaching and non-teaching employees at Punjabi University and affiliated colleges will be deducted for contribution to the Kerala Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF) despite the fact that the  employees were yet to receive their salary for August. While the very purpose of such a well-meaning move should be appreciated,  the university should keep its own house in order by paying salary to its employees.

Address grievances of waste collectors

The strike by door-to-door garbage collectors has created hardships for city residents. Garbage in households is piling up with the hope they would return to work soon but their strike has prolonged.   Such a confrontation between the garbage collectors and the MC had taken place in the past too. The civic body had to bend and accept their demands. Before the situation deteriorates further, the MC should address their grievances.

Is a civic issue bothering you? Are you agitated over the lack of concern? Is there something heartening that you feel needs to be highlighted? Or a picture which in your opinion ought to be seen by many, and not just you?
