The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge today sentenced a Mohali resident to 10 years in jail in an NDPS case. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the convict identified as Rajan Sharma (36).

According to the prosecution, a police team nabbed Rajan with a plastic carry bag from near the Motor Market in Sector 38 on January 27, 2018.

During the search of the carry bag, 24 injections, including 12 injections of buprenor phine of 2 ml each and 12 injections of pheniramine maleate of 10 ml each, were recovered from the carry bag.

As he failed to show any valid permit or licence for the injections, a case under Section 22 of the NDPS Act was registered against him and he was arrested.

On January 30, samples were sent to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory, Sector 36, to carry out chemical tests and chromatographic analysis. In the report submitted by the CFSL on February 23, 2018, presence of buprenorphine and pheniramine were detected in the injections.

After hearing the arguments, the court convicted Rajan under Section 22 of the NDPS Act and sentenced him to undergo imprisonment for 10 years.
