In a bid to increase its income, the Mohali Municipal Corporation has proposed to charge fee for holding functions at public parks. Apart from that, a proposal of 25 per cent hike in charges for community centres has also been prepared. It will be be discussed at the Municipal Corporation House meeting on Monday.
Till now, local residents are were not paying any charges, except refundable security of Rs 2,000, for holding social functions in public parks.
Now, if the proposal is approved, residents will have to pay Rs 1,000 plus Rs 5 per sq ft for the covered area per day for the purpose. The charges for booking any public park will be Rs 1,000 per day.
Civic body proposes Rs 15 crore deficit budget
The Mohali Municipal Corporation is all set to table a Rs 15.24 crore deficit budget for the next fiscal (2018-19) during its House special meeting on Monday. In the proposed budget, against the estimated income of Rs 112.93 crore, the estimated expenditure stands at Rs 128.17 crore.
As per the budget proposal, major sources of income for the MC are property tax (Rs 19 crore), VAT/octroi (Rs 60 crore), advertisement income (Rs 10 crore) and additional excise duty (Rs 10 crore) while the major expenditures includes establishment expenses (Rs 40.5 crore), committed expenses (Rs 35.2 crore) and non-committed expenses (Rs 47.97 crore).
Charges for special parks
For the booking of special parks, including Nature Park and City Park, an amount of Rs 10,000 per day has been proposed. Under the proposal, it has been mentioned that the special parks could be booked for Rs 10,000 per day for pre-wedding photography, Rs 50,000 per day for the shooting of movies/songs and Rs 5,000 per day for NGOs/other organisations. A fine of Rs 5,000 has also been proposed in case of any damage to these parks.
25 pc hike in fee for community centres
- It has also been proposed to increase charges of community centres in the town by 25 per cent. At present, the booking charges for community centre in Sectors 55, 59, 61, 69 and 71 are Rs 17,930, including refundable security of Rs 5,000, while charges for the same in Sectors 54, 56, 65 and 70 are Rs 13,850, including the refundable security of Rs 5,000.
- Now, the proposed rates are Rs 19,620 for the booking of community centres at Sectors 55, 59, 61, 69 and 71 and Rs 16,063 at Sectors 54, 56, 65 and 70. As per the proposal, the expenditure for the maintenance has to be borne by the Municipal Corporation.
