Chandigarh, August 4
Mohali’s swimmers won the overall women’s championship by scoring 105 points in the 42nd Senior Punjab Swimming Championship at the War Heroes Stadium in Sangrur, today.
Jalandhar claimed the second position with a score of 26 points. In the men’s category, hosts Sangrur claimed the top position by scoring 72 points and Hoshiarpur bagged the second position with a score of 27 points. Sangrur won the overall (men’s and women’s) championship with a total score of 117 points.
Mohali’s Jasnoor Kaur claimed the women’s 100m butterfly gold by clocking 1 minute and 18:15 seconds followed her teammate Varnika (1.28:74). Dhiriti Bajaj of Patiala claimed the third position in 1.32:16.
In the men’s category, Uday Sharma (1.3:51), Anmol Jindal (1.5:36) and Updesh Singh (1.5:38) won the gold, silver and bronze, respectively. Deepali Attri (1.15:35) claimed the women’s 100m backstroke title, followed by Mohali’s Arshpreet Kaur (1.17:17) and Patiala’s Tanisha Soni (1.32:20). Jobanpreet Singh (1.8:11), Abhishek Rana (1.9:10) and Rajwinder Singh (1.9:56) claimed the top three positions in the men’s category. Mohali’s Varnika bagged the women’s 200m freestyle gold with a timing of 2.29:68, followed by Chetanya (2.36:75) and Simratjit Kaur (2.37:34). ‘
Harnimrat Singh Dhindsa (2.8:42) claimed the men’s gold followed by Anmol Jindal (2.20:96) and Suryansh Sharma (2.15:27). In the men’s 1500m freestyle event, Suryansh Sharma (19.11:69) claimed the gold medal. Sharandeep Singh (20.33:52) finished second and Aadil (20.40:06) claimed the third position.
Patiala’s Chetanya (22.6:87), Mohali’s Arshpreet (22.39:24) and Hitakshi (24.45:17) claimed the top three positions in the women’s category. Vishal Sharma won the 200m individual medley gold by clocking 2.27:47. Mridul Punia (2.32:43) and Harsimar Singh (2.53:45) claimed the second and third positions, respectively. Deepali (2.50:59), Jasnoor (2.51:97) and Mohali’s Vanisha (2.53:45) won the first three positions in the women’s category.
Mohali team won the women’s 4x100m relay with a time of 5.25:06 to make a new meet record. Ludhiana (5.52:88) and Patiala (6.24:59) claimed second and third positions. —TNS
