Mohali will soon have a celebrity resident when Air Chief Marshal BS Dhanoa, the man behind this week’s successful airstrikes on terrorist camps deep inside Pakistan, retires later this year.

The Chief of Air Staff, who belongs to Gharuan village in Mohali district, intends to settle down in Chandigarh’s satellite township after hanging his boots. He is reportedly constructing a house at Phase 3B1 here, said sources.

Though Air Chief Dhanoa remained away from the public domain during the entire episode, the credit of conceiving, planning and executing the mission goes to him.

According to residents of the area, the house is being reconstructed by the Dhanoa family here. “The old construction, which was earlier rented out, has been demolished and the house is being constructed by the Air Chief,” said MS Sethi, a neighbour.

“We are proud to have a national hero in our neighbourhood. In fact, the entire town is proud of the fact that IAF chief will be its resident,” he said.

A day after the airstrikes, IAF personnel were reportedly seen near the construction site.

Air Chief Dhanoa had spent his childhood days at Gharuan village, where some of his kin still reside. His close family members live in Chandigarh.
