Patiala, March 19

Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal’s remarks on starting first batch of the AIIMS (Bathinda) at Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS), Faridkot, ahead of the 2019 General Election, has not gone  down well with the Punjab State Medical and Dental Teachers Association.

On Sunday, Badal said the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, team deputed by the Union Health Ministry, gave a go-ahead to start the first batch of MBBS for the AIIMS (Bathinda) at the BFUHS.

The association members said the university was already teaching a MBBS batch comprising 100 students of Guru Gobind Singh Medical College. They questioned lack of staff and infrastructure to commence another batch.

Dr HS Sohal, state president, PSMDTA said, “Government Medical Colleges in the state are already short of faculty and other facilities. Therefore, a new batch of students will affect the teaching.” He  said the Medical Council of India should take cognisance of the matter.  TNS
