The Sargam Society of Indian Music and Art (regd), Mohali, in collaboration with the Department of Art and Cultural Affairs, UT, and Punjab Art Council, organised a ghazal concert, “Mirza Ghalib – 222 Years”, at Randhawa Auditorium here on Sunday evening.
Popular and ever-fresh ghazals of Mirza Ghalib were sung by RD Kailey, an A-grade singer of Akashvani, Delhi, and a recipient of the “Urdu Ghazal Sarai Award”. He was accompanied by equally proficient and well-trained singer Dr Komal Chugh, Sushil Nagpal, Poonam Dogra and Simant Singh from Gurgaon.
The singers brought alive the charm, grace and literary elegance of Mirza Ghalib’s ornate poetry richly fraught with romantic fervour.
Bhupinder Singh Malik anchored the programme lacing the items with couplets of Ghalib and other poets. Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Rana KP Singh, who was present as the chief guest, lauded the programme and wished that such programmes must be held regularly to promote good music. DK Jain, General Manager, Punjab National Bank, presided over.
