To mark the 150th birth anniversary celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi, Punjab Governor and UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore today called upon the people to renew their pledge and work for creating a strong and vibrant nation of Bapu’s dreams with social equality, peace, harmony and free from the evils of untouchability and intoxicants.
Addressing the people at a function at the Gandhi Smarak Bhawan here, Badnore said the nation owes a lot to Mahatma Gandhi who led its freedom movement following the path of peace and non-violence.
The world has recognised his philosophy and the United Nations declared his birth anniversary as the International Day of Non-Violence being observed throughout the length and breadth of globe.
Two manuals on Jal Shakti Campus - Jal Shakti Village and Swachh Campus published by the Mahatma Gandhi National Council of Rural Education (MGNCRE), Hyderabad, - were also released by the Governor in the presence of Divya Chhabra and Priyavrt Sharma, OSDs of the Mahatma Gandhi National Council of Rural Education. These manuals are the action and implementation plans for higher education institutions for the development of a water conservation plan.
Among those present on the occasion included former MP Satya Pal Jain, president of Gandhi Smarak Bhawan KK Sharda, UT Deputy Commissioner Mandeep Singh Brar, director Devraj Tayagi, Prem Vij, VK Kapoor, former Mayor Poonam Sharma, besides senior citizens, academicians, research scholars, school students, authors, writers and other prominent persons from Chandigarh.
Congress holds Gandhi Sandesh Yatra
Chandigarh: To mark the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the Chandigarh Congress organised Gandhi Sandesh Yatra in Bapu Dham Colony here today. Tributes were also paid to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on his birthday. Pawan Kumar Bansal, former union Minister, Pradeep Chhabra, city Congress president, and senior leaders of the party Subhash Chawla, Pawan Sharma, HS Lucky and several other were present.
Bansal said the government was weakening the constitution. Industries were facing the closure and the unemployment had increased.
Chhabra said the sanitary condition of the city was deteriorating day by day. The Municipal Corporation failed to provide the basic facilities to the common man.
