Panchkula: More than 87,000 devotees paid obeisance at heavily-guarded Mansa Devi and Kali Devi temples on the first day of the nine-day Navaratras.
Offerings of around Rs 25 lakh, including foreign currency and jewellery, were made at the shrines.
SP Arora, CEO, Sri Mata Mansa Devi Shrine Board, said this year they had created an extra entrance to facilitate the movement of devotees towards the shrine. He said 16 police barricades had been set up besides 68 CCTV cameras were installed to keep a tab on anti-social elements.
Cultural programmes will begin at Narayani worshipping area, set up for the first time on the shrine complex, on Sunday evening.
Over 100 devotees donated blood at a camp held at the shrine.
