Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator VP Singh Badnore and Chandigarh MP Kirron Kher inaugurated Neerja Bhanot Hostel here on Tuesday.
On the occasion, Neerja Bhanot’s brother Aneesh Bhanot said: “We used to call her Lado. We as family are happy that a hostel is being named after her.” Remembering her contribution, he said: “She saved several lives. She gave us three important lessons — do your duty, come what may; do not compromise your self-respect and do not tolerate injustice.”
University VC Arun Kumar Grover said: “In 2016, when we when the foundation stone for the hostel was laid, Kirron Kher had expressed the desire to inaugurate it. I am happy that the hostel is being inaugurated before the end of my tenure.”
He thanked the Chandigarh Administration for giving a ‘no objection certificate’ to the hostel.
The hostel will accommodate 336 students. It consists of 38 rooms with attached washrooms and 130 normal rooms. All rooms will accommodate two students. The Governor and Kher also inaugurated 30 T-1 flats and unveiled the plaque of Dewan Anand Kumar at the administrative building of the PU.
