New art gallery opens at Pracheen Kala Kendra

In order to promote visual arts, Pracheen Kala Kendra opened a new PKK Art Gallery at their Sector 35 complex here on Monday.
The chief guest Diwan Manna, Chairman of Punjab Lalit Kala Akademi, inaugurated the gallery in the presence of Pracheen Kala Kendra Chairman SK Monga and Registrar Dr Shobha Koser and alumni of Kalakshetra, Chennai, who teamed up with the kendra for the promotion of performing and visual arts.
Inaugurating the gallery, Manna said, “Branches of banyan tree of Kalakshetra have reached the City Beautiful with the mission to propagate Kalakshetra.”
Twenty paintings on ‘The Aesthetics of Rukmini Devi Arundale’ by Lakshmi Krishnamurthy, an alumna of Kalakshetra, were temporarily displayed as a part of the exhibition.
The kendra also organised a seminar on Bharatnatyam and lecture demonstration titled ‘Anubhuti’, an experience, by legendary gurus of Kalakshetra alumni. The event featured two Padmabhushan awardees Shanta and VP Dhanjayan, Sangeet Natak Akademi (SNA) awardees CK Balagopalan, Lakshmi Krishnamurthy and above all their guru NS Jayalakshmi.
