UIET students bag third spot in MHRD innovation contest
Chandigarh, September 12
A team of seven BE students from the University Institute of Engineering Technologies (UIET), PU, was selected as one of the top innovators in a nationwide competition held in New Delhi yesterday.
The event was organised by the Institution’s Innovation Cell (IIC), MHRD.
The competition was held in multiple rounds across the country for identifying the most innovative and useful proof of concepts developed by engineering students over the past two months.
The PU bagged the 3rd prize and made it to an international IIC competition to be held in Canada.
The team comprised Rashi, Ishan, Varun (mechanical stream), Pujita, Himanshu (CSE), Pranav, Parneet (ECE). They were mentored by faculty members Dr Prashant Jindal, Dr Rakesh Tuli and Dr Mamta Juneja from the UIET at the Medical Devices group of Design Innovation Centre (DIC). They had developed a motion-sensing glove which can be used to capture movement of individual fingers and joints of a human hand which gives valuable information to physiotherapists, orthopaedics and surgeons for early detection and diagnosis of various defects leading to the loss of strength in joints, nerves and muscles. The glove is aesthetic, comfortable and user-friendly.
A total of 1,600 teams had participated in the first stage of the event, of them, 43 teams reached the finals. — TNS
