A fine 112-run partnership between Ayush Sikka (65) and Mandeep Singh (61) helped Chandigarh gain a strong position against Amritsar on the opening day of the Punjab Inter-District U-19 Cricket Championship for Dhruv Pandove Trophy at PCA Stadium on Sunday.

Ayush and Mandeep came together at 131/6 and took the team to 243 runs with their unbeaten partnership on Day 1 of the three-day final. Openers Ishan Goyal and Arjun Azad started well with a 61-run partnership. Deepanshu took the wicket of Goyal (25) to give his team the breakthrough. Ayush Gautam (3) soon fell prey to Deepanshu. Azad was soon back in the hut after falling to Arjun (45). Lakshya (13) and Tavleen Singh joined together to stable the innings and the duo raised a 24-run partnership to push the total to 103. At stumps, Sikka (65) and Mandeep (61) were unbeaten, having pushed to 243. —TNS
