Fatehgarh Sahib, July 26
The Amloh legislator, Kaka Randip Singh, honoured international shooter Arjun Singh Cheema during a function organised at Mandi Gobindgarh on Thursday for bringing laurels to the district and the nation by winning two gold medals at the recently concluded Junior World Shooting Championship at Czech Republic, held from July 11 to July 15.
Cheema won gold in individual 50 metre free air pistol shooting and another gold for the team event. He not only broke 12-year-old record, but also created history by scoring 569 points as earlier record was of 563 points. Earlier, he had performed well to win a team gold in the 10 metre air pistol at the Junior World Cup held in Germany.
Addressing the gathering, the MLA said, “It is matter of pride for all of us as Cheema, a native of Mandi Gobindgarh, has created history. The state government is committed to promote sports.” Th MLA also assured all help to Cheema.
Speaking on the occasion, Cheema said he was preparing to compete in the upcoming World Shooting Championship to be held in Korea from September 1.
Deputy Commissioner Shiv Dular Singh Dhillon congratulated Cheema for his performance.
