Chhatbir Zoo celebrated International Tiger Day by organising a campaign on tiger awareness here on Monday. A tiger walk was also organised on the occasion. Students of Gurkul Global School, Panchkula, participated in the event.
The campaign was specifically organised at the tiger enclosures of the zoo so as to give a realistic touch to the issue. International Tiger Day is observed on July 29 annually to give worldwide attention to the preservation of tigers.
The event was started at the Saint Petersburg Tiger Summit in 2010. The aim of the event is to preserve wild tigers, which are close to extinction. Many animal welfare organisations have pledged to help these wonderful creatures. They are helping to raise funds to reach this goal.
Besides preserving tigers, the event also promotes protection and expansion of the wild tiger habitats and to gain support for the cause.
The zoo plays a pivotal role as far as awareness of wildlife in general and tigers in particular is concerned.
