Newton-Bhabha PhD placement for PU scholar

Chandigarh: Varun Gupta, a PhD research scholar from the University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS), Panjab University (PU), has bagged the Newton-Bhabha PhD placement as per recently declared results by the British Council.



Chandigarh: Varun Gupta, a PhD research scholar from the University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS), Panjab University (PU), has bagged the Newton-Bhabha PhD placement as per recently declared results by the British Council. Varun is currently working under the supervision of Prof Anil Kumar in the Pharmacology division of the department. Hailing from Solan in Himachal Pradesh, Varun is a gold medalist and a DST INSPIRE senior research fellow in the department. His research includes understanding the complex pathology behind brain stroke and hemorrhages along with studying new pharmacological interventions for the management of this lethal disease. Varun will be sponsored by the British Council and the Government of India to spend four months at the University of Glasgow, UK, where he will learn the latest techniques used in neuropharmacology research. Workshop on extraoral maxillofacial prostheses

 The Department of Prosthodontics, Dr Harvansh Singh Judge Institute of Dental Sciences, Panjab University, organised a two-day workshop on extraoral maxillofacial prostheses to impart knowledge on prosthetic rehabilitation of patients with ear, nose, eye and orbital defects. The newer materials and technologies had revolutionised the practice of prosthodontics in recent times, informed Dr Ashish Jain, who presided over the event. Dr Gunjan Pruthi (PGI), Dr Mohit Dhiman (PGI) and Dr Sharique Rehan (Dr Harvansh Singh Judge Institute of Dental Sciences), who have done extensive work on maxillofacial prostheses, delivered the lecture and projected live demonstration and conducted hands on maxillofacial prostheses fabrication. Around 44 budding prosthodontists and 15 staff members registered for the workshop. TNS

Chinese delegation visits PEC

 A five-member delegation headed by Kevin Lin, Director, External Relations, University of Nottingham, China campus, visited the PEC campus and offered collaboration in academics, research and entrepreneurial incubation. Dr Manoj K Arora, Director, PEC; Dr KK Gogna, Dean International Relations; and Dr JD Sharma received the delegation. Lin informed about the activities at the University of Nottingham, China campus, and Jessica Li, a member of the delegation, elaborated on the possible areas of collaborations between two institutes. The possible areas of research collaborations, student-exchange programmes and sharing of resources and knowledge base were also discussed. It was proposed and consented that both institutes being the institutes of prominence in respective countries should initiate some collaboration by participating in International Incubation Centre at China. The delegation also interacted with members of the Student Council. TNS
