Chandigarh, June 7

From this session, candidates seeking admission at Panjab University will not have to submit affidavits for seeking reservation or for explanation of gap-year.

Authorities have said, “From now on, a student will submit self-attested forms along with an undertaking taking full responsibility of the documents. If found fraudulent, the candidate’s admission can be cancelled and legal action shall also be taken against him.”

The university has launched a new website called admissions.puchd.ac.in where the process has been made centralised. The candidate can upload his documents but will also have to bring them during the counselling. The centralised procedure also means that a certificate will carry the same weight age in each department. Previously, departments awarded different marks according to their own criterion.

The website has been prepared to a Bhopal-based company. The company has prepared a cloud-based website instead of the existing server based website of the PU. It will prevent break down of the website according to officials, who claim that it is better than the website of other universities in the region, including Delhi University. The company will be paid Rs 150 per student.

The website will also enable candidates to pay their fee via online modes instead of generating bank challans. This will not only make it possible for candidates to pay their fee from home, it will save their time which was to be spent in banks. The online transaction will also save money as it will cost only Rs 10 instead of Rs 40 that is claimed by the bank in case of challans. However, the option to generate a challan will also remain. The form will cost only Rs 300 to the candidate now, instead of Rs 500.

The new PU handbook was also launched today which has been completely revamped. A team led by Gupta made some changes like not including the admission form in the handbook. The new handbook is of better quality and includes all the information that a candidate needs. Unlike previous handbooks, this one includes all important dates, fee structure of all courses as well as the placement records of all departments. The handbook is priced at Rs 700..—TNS
