Chandigarh, August 6
There is no need for you to visit the office of the Registering and Licensing Authority (RLA) for getting registration numbers of vehicles after August 15 as the UT Administration is all set to start the dealer point registration facility next week.
Sources said UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore would inaugurate the service next week.
Once the new system starts, owners will not be required to stand in queues to get vehicles passed and get numbers for these at the RLA.
Documents will be verified at the dealer’s end and permanent registration numbers will be issued on the spot along with the vehicle. The dealers will set up a special desk where all formalities such as depositing road tax will be completed. Once the road tax is paid, the RLA will issue a registration number for the vehicle.
Under the new system, temporary numbers for vehicles will not be issued anymore. The new system will not only help residents get registration numbers without wasting time, it will also ensure transparency. It will also weed out agents, who charge a hefty amount for the work. The RLA has already signed an MoU with automobile dealers. Owners will not have to pay extra for the registration of vehicles to automobiles dealers. The service was delayed due to a stand-off between dealers and the Administration over the high security fee. However, the Administration recently agreed to reduce it from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 1 lakh. Barinder Saluja, owner of Saluja Ford, said the facility would help both dealers and customers.
Buy vanity number, get vehicle later
Residents will now be allowed to participate in an auction of vanity numbers without buying vehicles. They can now buy the vanity number first and purchase the vehicle of their choice in the next three months. As per the current practice, it is mandatory to show the documents of the vehicle to participate in an auction of vanity numbers.
