No rise in Sukhna Lake’s water level
Chandigarh, June 9
The rain that lashed the city on Saturday morning has brought no relief for Sukhna Lake as its water level did not witness any increase.
The water level of the lake was recorded at 1,155.30 ft on Saturday. The same water level was recorded on Friday also.
An officer of the Engineering Department said the water level of the lake had been decreasing since the onset of summer.
On March 20, 2018, the water level of the lake was recorded at 1,157.35 ft. The water level of the lake has decreased by approximately 2 ft in the past two months.
Dip in the water level at Sukhna is a problem every summer. The Punjab and Haryana High Court had taken cognisance of the drying Sukhna and constituted a high-powered committee to chalk out alternative solutions of bringing additional water to Sukhna Lake. — TNS
