“Pher tenu yaad keeta agg nu chumeya asaan, Ishq pyala zehar da ikk ghut phir mangya asaan...’— Amrita Pritam.
The Lasya Wow Womania, an all-women music ensemble, offered a tribute to the legend of iconic Punjabi author and poet Amrita Pritam through special programme of musical renditions of Amrita’s ornate poetry in ‘Oh phir milegi’, staged to scant audience under the aegis of Punjab Arts Council at Randhawa auditorium here today.
Scripted, designed and directed by Sunita Dhariwal, the programme commenced with rendition of title song ‘Oh phir milegi’ before theatre artiste Asha Saklani, portraying as close confidant of Amrita and Sutradhar linked up episodes of literary achievements of the iconic poet, whose life and literature merged into one.
The accomplished singers weaved the storyline in songs written and immortalised by Amrita Pritam. Be it ‘Ishq puchhenda, das ni jinde’ by Shweta Dhillon, ‘Dharti ne ajj vart kholna’ by Jaspreet Jassal, ‘Ajj akhan Waris Shah nu’ and more all songs reflected her pain, anguish and heartfelt concern about the forced partition and subsequent massacre.
Music composer Arun Kant’s ‘Tidke ghade da paani’ as also ‘ Likh jaa meri taqdeer’ by Himani Jhangda’s were well received.
Earlier, chief guest Padma Shri awardee poet Surjit Patar, Chairman, Punjab Arts Council, inaugurated the programme.
