Open-air gyms, which have been being set up at public parks in different wards here, are drawing a good response.
The gyms are being installed with the grant provided by local Member of Parliament Prem Singh Chandumajra from MPLAD funds.
Talking to Chandigarh Tribune, Chandumajra said so far four such gyms had been set up at different parks, including Rose Garden at Phase 3B1 and Sector 70 Park, in the town.
“The response from residents is encouraging. People from all age groups can be seen doing exercise on the equipment installed at these parks,” said Chandumajra, who would inaugurate another such gym at Bougainvillaea Park at Phase IV here tomorrow.
As per Harmanpreet Singh Prince, SAD councillor of Phase 3B1 area, the area councillors, along with the Residents’ Welfare Association, have been made responsible for the care and maintenance of the gyms.
“At least five different equipment, including stationary cycling machine and cross-leg machine, have been installed at the parks. The number of equipment would be increased in the coming days. As the facility is free of cost, the residents, especially fitness freaks, are being largely benefitted with it,” said Prince.
Chandumajra claimed that an amount of around Rs 1.5 lakh was being spent on each such gym.
“So far, Rs 10 lakh have been given from the grant. More amount will be given for the purpose in the coming days. Not only in Mohali but also other towns in my constituency will be provided with this facility soon,” said Chandumajra.
