National faculty from Ahmedabad Dr MC Patel and Dr Gitender Sharma threw light on various medicolegal aspects that obstetricians and gynaecologists dealt with in their day-to-day practice.

Various laws pertaining to gynaecologists such as MTP Act, PCPNDT Act, POCSO Act, etc, were highlighted, followed by obstetric mishaps that patients, doctors and relatives are caught unawares.

Despite best efforts by medical teams, patients are lost leading to a trail of events such as breaking the bad news to the close ones which may eventually lead to mob violence and relatives ransacking hospital premises and creating ruckus in the surrounding area. Sensitivity of the issue is so much that involvement of police and media plays a vital role in dealing with the relatives and the medical team as well.

Awareness of doctors regarding thorough documentation and how to deal with the legal notices was also created. Gynaecologists Dr Umesh Jindal, Dr Alka Sehgal, Dr Yash Bala and medicolegal expert Dr Neeraj Nagpal shared their views on critical topics. — TNS
