Finally, after a gap of four years city’s first multi-level parking lot will be thrown open to public in the last week of this month. The project, which was announced in 2013, is likely to be inaugurated by Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.

Panchkula MLA Gian Chand Gupta said the multi-level parking lot would be inaugurated by the Haryana Chief Minister.

The project had already missed its deadline on May 5. It has come up in Sector 1 close to the Mini-Secretariat and the District Courts complex.

Advocate Sameer Sethi said the project would end parking woes around the courts complex. In the absence of parking space, advocates, litigants and regular visitors were forced to park their vehicle on the road.

Thousands of visitors come to the Panchkula Mini-Secretariat and District Courts for their work. The multi-level parking is much needed to deal with heavy rush of vehicles every day. A majority of the people park their vehicles on the road and in no-parking zones. Resultantly, the police tow away these vehicles.

Advocate Kamal Joshi said though the project got delayed, the authorities should now open it for public without any further delay.

Notably, the construction work had started on August 7, 2015, and the parking was to be handed over to the administration on May 5 this year. Technically, the multi-level parking will have space for 200 cars. As many as 500 cars may be adjusted in the parking and it will solve the problem of haphazard parking on the road, especially outside the District Courts.

About the project

The ambitious project of multi-level parking was announced in 2013, but remained on paper due to the lack of adequate funds. The project is the first-of-its-kind in Panchkula, as there is no other multi-level parking here.

Work started on August 7, 2015

Notably, the construction work had started on August 7, 2015, and the parking was to be handed over to the administration on May 5 this year. Technically, the multi-level parking will have space for 200 cars. As many as 500 cars may be adjusted in the parking and it will solve the problem of haphazard parking on the road, especially outside the District Courts.

The layout plan

As per the layout plan, a six-storeyed building was built, in which first three floors will be reserved for parking of vehicles, and the upper three floors will have offices of district-level officers. Some offices from the Mini-Secretariat will be shifted to the building.
