A day after the rain water entered the houses in Sector 19; the drains of the area are still blocked.
Area residents were busy today as they had put out their household items like beds, sofa sets, chairs, washing machines and other items, in sunlight as the rainwater had damaged them yesterday.
Since the drains were still blocked, the foul smell was also creating problem for the residents.
Bhaskar Nailwal, a resident of Sector 19, said the situation was similar in Sector 19 for the past many years. After rain, water entered the houses and rainwater accumulated on roads. The authorities should work on long-term solution and then the temporary solution, or else the situation will be the same when it rains again, he suggested.
Echoing a similar view, Kamal, another resident of Sector 19, said the costly furniture items got damaged each time it rained. Even light showers flooded the houses and the streets. Today, they were busy drying their household items in the sun, he said.
Mayor Upinder Kaur Ahluwalia said she along with area councillor Ravikant met the contractor and directed him to deploy extra manpower to clear the blockage in drains. The MC will soon come out with permanent solution such as laying of pipelines having big diameter to solve the problem of blockage in the lines, she said.
