Chandigarh, December 26
Punjab Governor and UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore has appointed Pankaj Jain as the UT senior standing counsel in the Punjab and Haryana High Court for three years or till further orders for civil cases. He replaces advocate Sanjeev Sharma, who stepped down recently.
Sharma was the second senior standing counsel to have put in his papers within a short span. His predecessor, Suvir Sehgal, had resigned from the post on November 28. His and Sharma’s resignation had come as a surprise in the absence of any ostensible reason or even an indication of the things to follow.
Just 44, Pankaj Jain had started his career under Justice Jagdish Singh Khehar, who went on to become the Chief Justice of India. Pankaj Jain is a law graduate from the Department of Laws, Panjab University. He has also done postgraduation in Economics and Urdu. Jain has been practising in the High Court and the Supreme Court since 1998.
