Patiala DC writes to RTA to check vehicular pollution

Vehicles polluting environment have now come under scanner over increasing pollution levels in the state. The Patiala Deputy Commissioner (DC), Kumar Amit, today said all directions of the Chief Secretary, Punjab, as per guidelines of the Supreme Court would be followed strictly. There would be a strict check on pollution by vehicles, he added.

The DC has written to the Secretary, Regional Transport Authority (RTA), Patiala, to check increasing pollution levels due to vehicles in the district. 

“Strict action should be taken against owners of vehicles that are found polluting environment,” the DC said.

A number of vehicles are plying on city roads flouting pollution norms. Many of these are three-wheelers, which are running past their registration dates without check.

Meanwhile, officials of the state government held a meeting after directions of the Supreme Court. All government officials were assigned duties to check burning of paddy stubble in their respective areas. 

“Farmers are being sensitised not to burn paddy straw. Clear directions have also been given to gram panchayats in this regard,” the DC said.
