Punjabi University Vice-Chancellor Prof BS Ghuman on Wednesday released a mobile application on English-Punjabi dictionary prepared by a student of the Department of Linguistics and Punjabi Studies of the university.

An official said the application, which had been prepared by Gurpreet Singh, could be downloaded from Google Play Store for free. More than 37,000 English words had been given along with their definitions in Punjabi in the application, the official said.

Ghuman said the university was going all out to promote Punjabi language in the region. Dr CP Kamboj from the Department of Linguistics and Punjabi Studies said, “The application uses high-level search technology. The words and their definitions come along with their pronunciation, which could be bookmarked for later use and reference.”
