Chandigarh, July 5
With the Supreme Court restraining all state cricket bodies from holding elections till it pronounced its verdict on the draft constitution of the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI), the Pun Cricket Players’ Association (PCPA) is in a wait-and-watch mode.
The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Wednesday put the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) and the State of Punjab on notice on a PCPA petition seeking initiation of steps for implementing the Lodha Committee recommendations. The High Court had fixed October 10 as the next date for further hearing.
“We have not read the order, let us see what happens when the issue comes up for hearing in the High Court. Apart from the appointment of administrators, one of our prayers is initiating an inquiry into the affairs and working of PCA. There are many other related issues in our prayer. Our petition was filed in May and the preliminary hearing was on July 4. In that sense, our case is pending in the court,” PCPA’s counsel Hemant Bassi on Thursday afternoon.
PCPA, through its counsel, has also submitted that PCA through its office-bearers was trying to show compliance of the Lodha Committee reforms, but in fact it was just an eyewash and the situation remained the same.
The Supreme Court on Thursday restrained all the state cricket bodies from holding fresh elections till the court pronounced its verdict and asked the
High Courts not to entertain any fresh pleas with regard to appointment of administrators.
