Looking at the negative effects of the use of utensils made of thermocol and plastic on health, the Municipal Corporation (MC) has issued an advisory to the people asking them to abstain from using these for food.

Meanwhile, the civic body said the people should take prior permission from the authorities for holding any religious programme, including a community kitchen.

MC Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Khaira said the people should also ensure cleanliness in the area during and after religious programmes.

MC officials said the use of utensils, including plates, glasses, spoons and other disposable items, made of plastic and thermocol was a violation of the solid waste management rules.

Khaira said, “The directions have been issued for the benefit of people and to ensure cleanliness in surroundings. People should put up dustbins in the area to dispose of any waste during a community kitchen and other programmes. The MC will hold a meeting with various religious organisations for the implementation of the rules of solid waste management.” — TNS
