After serving for over four decades at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Dr Subhash Chander Varma was relieved his charge as the Dean today.
Verma's retirement has brought an end to the term of one dean in the medical institution. From August 1, the institute will have two Deans. Prof Rajesh Kumar will be the new Dean of Academics while Prof D Behera will be the Dean of Research.
After obtaining his MBBS degree from Himachal Pradesh Medical College (HPMC), Simla, Dr Subhash Varma joined the PGI in January 1975 to pursue MD course in internal Medicine.
He became a faculty member in May 1981, Professor and Head of Internal Medicine in December 1999 and Dean in February 2016. He also served as the officiating director of the PGI from October 2016 till March this year. TNS
