Dr Kanchan Kumar Mukherjee, Professor of Neurosurgery at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, passed away on the night of June 17 while attending a conference in Bangalore.
The news of his death led to a wave of grief among faculty colleagues, students and medical fraternity all over the country.
Dr Mukherjee had pledged his body for donation. He was survived by his wife and a daughter. Prof Mukherjee was born on December 6, 1965.
He did his MBBS from Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, in 1989 and obtained his MS (General Surgery) degree from the PGIMER, Chandigarh in 1994. He did his MCh in Neurosurgery from the Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow, in 1997.
He worked as a senior lecturer in neurosurgery at the GMCH-32, Chandigarh, for a brief period. He joined as a permanent faculty in the Department of Neurosurgery at the PGI, Chandigarh, in 2000 and had been serving the institute since then.
Dr Mukherjee had published over 100 landmark research papers in well-reputed international and national journals.
