The Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) has been allocated Rs 1,207.78 crore in the Union Budget for 2018-19 presented by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Thursday.
Last year, the institute was allocated Rs 1,139.60 crore which was later revised up to 1,205 crore.
This year, the PGI had sought nearly Rs 1,748.12 crore, but it got merely an increase of Rs 2.78 cr from the previous year revised fund of Rs 1205 crore.
Out of the Rs 1,207.78cr allocated budget, the institute will spend 892.98 crore on disbursing salaries.
While Rs 89.80 crore would be spent on grant-in-aid, the rest of the Rs 225 crore will be spent on creation of capital asset.
The anticipated revenue generation of the institute from internal resources for financial year 2018-19 will be approximately Rs 135 crore.
Last year, the institute had spent Rs 920 crore, including arrears and revised salary according to the 7th Central Pay Commission (CPC).
Official sources in the PGI said the institute was expected to get nearly Rs 200 crore extra funds in the revised Budget.
For 2015-16, the PGIMER was allocated Rs 775 crore by the Union government in the Budget, which was later revised up to 938.58 crore.
A PGI official said several development projects in the PGI would take a hit due to skewed Budget. The PGI had announced a slew of projects to be initiated in 2018-19. Besides, geriatric centre, mother and child care centre and neuroscience centre, the institute was planning to development another multi-level parking lot as well.
