The owners of Phul Cinema whose advertisement board installed on a unipole inside the cinema complex’s property was removed by officials of Municipal Corporation (MC) on Monday have received stay orders from the court of Civil Judge Junior Division (CJJD) here on Tuesday.

In the court order Randeep Kumar, CJJD said, “The parties are directed to maintain status quo regarding the advertising unipole and its structure which is installed in the land of the plaintiff owner of Phul Cinema.”

In a statement, owner of the cinema Raghav Gupta said, “We have installed the unipole on our premises and were using it for our own personal use, including advertisements of movies to be showed in the cinema. The officials of Municipal Corporation did not listen to us and tried to cause loss to the unipole.”

Counsel of the cinema, Amit Jain, also added that the MC officials did not serve any legal notice to the cinema owners and acted on their own will.

Contrary to the claims of the manager, MC Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Khaira said, “I will check the proper procedure followed by the officials.” He added “We do not have any objection to the unipole, but if the advertisement is facing the road, the owner has to pay the advertisement tax.” — TNS
