PNB drub IAF, clinch title

CHANDIGARH:Gurjinder Singh struck twice as Punjab National Bank (PNB) registered a 5-0 win over Indian Air Force (IAF) to win the 47th SN Vohra’s All-India Gurmit Memorial Hockey Tournament final at the Sector 42 Sports Complex, here, on Saturday.

Gurjinder Singh struck twice as Punjab National Bank (PNB) registered a 5-0 win over Indian Air Force (IAF) to win the 47th SN Vohra’s All-India Gurmit Memorial Hockey Tournament final at the Sector 42 Sports Complex, here, on Saturday. 

Prakash Barla scored in the third minute to give PNB an early lead. IAF tried hard to level the score but an alert PNB defence foiled all their attempts.    

Gurjinder then scored two quick goals (31st, 35th) to help PNB go into the break 3-0 ahead. 

In the second half, Sukhjit Singh and Gagandeep Singh scored a goal each in the 68th and 70th minutes, respectively, to seal a comprehensive 5-0 win and help PNB  take home the winners’ cheque of Rs 1,00,000. IAF were awarded a cheque of Rs 60,000.

IAF’s P Palanganga was adjudged the Best Goalkeeper, while his teammate Anand Lakhra was named the Best Full-back. Shivdeep and Sukhjit Singh of PNB were adjudged the Best Half-back and Best Forward, respectively.
