Poets light up ‘Geet Darbar’

As many as 10 renowned Punjabi poet-lyricists, whose songs have been sung and recorded by acclaimed singers for albums and films, presented their choicest songs in a literary programme, ‘Geet Darbar’, as part of a monthly, “Bandanvaar”, organised by the Punjab Sahit Akademi under the aegis of the Punjab Arts Council (PAC) at Randhawa Auditorium here today.

All the lyricists welcomed and expressed gratitude to organisers for initiating this gesture. Prominent participating poet-lyricists included Shamsher Sandhu, playwright novelist Preet Mohinder Tewari, Dharam Kameyana, Vijay Dhammi, Gurchet Fatehwalia, Blajinder Sangila, Karamjit Puri, Nima Loharka, Sandhey Sukhbir and Manpreet Tiwana, who also conducted the ‘Geet Darbar’.

Credited with a dozen of novels, dramas and poetry, Tewari read out songs, including a few immortalised by Asha Bhosle and others. Iconic lyricist Shamsher Sandhu regaled audience with his hit songs such as “Pekey” as also Baljinder Sangila with “Punjab diye mittiye”.

Chief guest Gulzar Sandhu, PAC chairperson Satinder Satti, and Dr Satish Verma released poet Gurbux Saini’s 10th book “Sant Senapati Sherni Mai Bhago”.
