Poor response to scholarship programme, dept to reissue orders

The UT Sports Department has received a poor response for the scholarship programme under Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay National Welfare Fund (PDUNWF) for Sportspersons.
The circular issued in this regard on December 12, last year, by the Joint Director, Sports, will now be "reissued".
The scheme offers financial support under crucial circumstances —indigent condition/medical treatment, etc… —to the sportspersons who have excelled in national and international competitions and whose families have no source of income or have income less than Rs 4 lakh per annum.
"The District Sports Officer (DSO) added that the application form was available with the department and as well on the website of the Chandigarh Administration.
"The form is available on the website and can also be collected from the Sector 42 Sports Complex. The dully filled form can be submitted to the Government of India portal or we can help those in need to apply under the scheme," said DSO Ravinder Singh.
As per quantum of assistance (Part-III) of the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay National Welfare Fund for Sportspersons a lump sum ex-gratia financial assistance may be granted to an outstanding sportsperson living in indigent circumstances, subject to a maximum of Rs 5 lakh. In addition to this, a provision of monthly pension of Rs 5,000 may be also provided to meritorious sportspersons.
As per clause 11 (ii) assistance for injuries sustained during training for and participation in competition (as defined), a lump sum ex-gratia financial assistance subject to a maximum of Rs 10 lakh, may be granted to an outstanding sportsperson for injuries sustained during training for and participation in competitions.
Also, according to clause 11 (iii) under assistance to families of deceased outstanding sportspersons, a lump sum ex-gratia financial assistance not exceeding Rs 5 lakh in each case, may be provided to the families of deceased outstanding sportspersons.
Also under assistance for medical treatment, a financial assistance not exceeding Rs 10 lakh may be provided for medical treatment of an outstanding sportsperson or of any of his/her family members live in indigent circumstances. According to the local authorities, the applicant may apply for the scheme after going through all the details on the website yas.nic.in or chandigarh.gov.in.
